Professor
Applied and Industrial Mathematics
Faculty of Science
Developing and solving sophisticated mathematical models for contemporary problems in industry. Particular interest lies with problems that require an intersection of multiple disciplines or innovative solution techniques.
Background
C. Sean Bohun is a Professor of Mathematics at Ontario Tech University. He came to Ontario Tech in 2006 from Penn State University, where he started as an Assistant Professor upon completion of his MSc in Theoretical Physics and PhD in Applied Mathematics both at the University of Victoria. With a keen interest in the application of mathematics, Dr. Bohun has spent much of his career working to develop unique and innovative solutions for a multitude of industrial partners. These collaborations straddle a cross section of disciplines and industries, allowing Sean to work in such fields as health care, oil and gas, the food industry, and forensics.
Dr. Bohun research interests lay in the areas of mathematical modelling and breaking down the barriers between the mathematical sciences and other disciplines and where those lines meet.
His research has provided him opportunities to further collaborate and expand his work into building and coordinating graduate student modelling camps and industrial problem-solving workshops, both within Canada and abroad. This has encouraged contemporary solutions to real-life industrial problems while giving occasion to work with other world class mathematicians and students. In addition to serving as head organizer for several of the Canadian events, Sean was asked to assist universities in South Africa and Spain in developing their own workshops.
