Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Location and Venue

IDW2019 will be hosted at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, Ontario. The conference will take place in the Science Building (UA), centrally located on Ontario Tech's North Campus. Parking will be available in Founders Parking Lot 2. 

The banquet will take place at the Oshawa Italian Recreation Club in downtown Oshawa (245 Simcoe St S, Oshawa, L1H 4H3).  
Bus transportation will be provided from campus to the banquet hall, and then back to main hotels in downtown Oshawa, and to the Go Train/Via Rail (Oshawa station).

  • Friday night conference mixer
    The conference mixer will take place at Ontario Tech’s 61 Charles St, which was previously the location of the Alger Press Building. This space once produced textiles for the Eaton’s Company in the early 1900s, and General Motors for war parts during the Second World War. Now, this recently renovated building still features some of the original architecture from its pre-Ontario Tech days. The banquet will serve cocktails, and additionally meats, cheeses, and salads catered by Ann’s Delicatessen, Bakery & Catering (
  • Information about the hotel

    Rooms for conference guests has been reserved at the Best Western Plus in Oshawa and the Comfort Inn, which are neighboring hotels. The hotels have excellent proximity to both the 401 highway and the Oshawa Go Train Station. They are newly renovated with free parking, Wi-Fi, and a complimentary hot breakfast. If you are interested in booking a room, please do so by phone and mention that you are with “Ontario Tech Chemistry” group booking. They are on hold now through September 29th, 2019. Shuttles from the hotel to the conference location will be organized with further details to follow.
