Background

Dr. Sima Soltanpour is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Computer Science program at Ontario Tech University. She earned her PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Windsor in 2018 and received her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic).

Prior to joining Ontario Tech University, Dr. Soltanpour was an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at York University. She previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Instructor in the School of Information Technology at Carleton University, where she conducted research in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and biomedical image analysis while teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.

In addition to her academic career, Dr. Soltanpour collaborates with industry on the development of AI-driven solutions for healthcare and medical imaging. Her work focuses on translating advanced machine learning and computer vision techniques into practical, scalable software systems that support preclinical research and healthcare innovation. She has experience developing intelligent algorithms for MRI and fMRI analysis, image denoising, segmentation, registration, and motion correction.

Dr. Soltanpour is passionate about creating engaging learning environments that connect theory with practice. She emphasizes active learning, experiential education, and project-based learning to help students develop strong analytical thinking, programming skills, and practical problem-solving abilities. She believes that curiosity, collaboration, and lifelong learning are essential to preparing students for successful careers in computing.

Outside of work, Dr. Soltanpour enjoys practicing yoga, hiking, and spending time outdoors.
