Contest: International Day of Women and Girls in Science

February 11th is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and we want to hear your stories! The winner will receive a $50 gift card for the Campus Store.

How to Enter:
Submit a 10–60 second video answering ONE of the following questions:

1. Is there a female scientist you consider to be a mentor? How has she supported you?
2. Do you know a woman in science who has helped you to become a better scientist? If so, how?
3. If you identify as female, do you have a personal experience about being a woman in science, or why you chose this path?

Who Can Enter:
All Ontario Tech University students, faculty, staff, and alumni, who are at least 18 at the time of entry. 

How to Win:
Send us your 10-60 second long video before February 9, 2026 at 11:59 pm (submission details below). On February 11, 2026, the Faculty of Science Social Media Team will randomly draw a winner from a list of creators who videos fit the criteria. 

Additionally, our favourite videos will be featured across our social media channels: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky, and Facebook. Please note that some of these may be edited for time. Let us know if you’d like us to tag you, or if you would not like your video to be posted.

Contest Rules:

Contest is open to all Ontario Tech University students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Participants must be 18 years old or older at the time of submission.
  1. Videos must be 10-60 seconds long.
  2. To win, videos must speak to one of the questions posed above and be respectful of the contest's intent to celebrate women in science.
  3. All creators must ensure that the individuals featured in their content have provided their written consent by completing the university’s Photo/Video Release Form.
  4. When submitting your video, please ensure that you provide your contact information and role at Ontario Tech (student, faculty, staff, or alumni).
  5. Single or Team Submissions: You may choose to enter as an individual or as a team; however, only 1 prize will be awarded. Please ensure all team members agree prior to submission on how a potential prize will be shared.  
  6. Videos must be submitted in either MP4 or MOV formats. All submissions must be sent to the sciencesocialmedia@ontariotechu.ca email or DM'd to the Faculty of Science Instagram account @ot_fsc by 11:59 pm on February 9, 2026. As videos may exceed email file size limits, your submission can provide an active link to the video as uploaded to Google Docs, Dropbox, or OneDrive/SharePoint prior to the deadline. In addition to providing access to the file, the email should include all release forms.
  7. The Faculty of Science Social Media Team will review all videos and determine if they meet the criteria referenced above. The names of all qualified creators will be placed in a container, and one name will be pulled from the container to determine the draw winner.
